In the 2000s and 2010s, hardly anyone could have imagined that small cars would be on the verge of extinction. Many once popular models have simply ceased to exist or are produced exclusively in the domestic markets of manufacturers from China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, France and Germany.
The reason for the low popularity of A-class cars lies in the fact that they have many limitations, primarily caused by the small capacity of both the interior and the luggage compartment. Yes, they are very convenient for traveling around the city in a small group as an auxiliary vehicle, but they are clearly not suitable for a wide range of tasks.
Despite the shortage of A-Class representatives, you can find quite a few of these used models on city streets. Many of them are in good technical condition, their units and mechanisms are not as worn out as in more “adult” cars. We bring to your attention the top small cars with mileage.
Daewoo Matiz
This is one of the most affordable small cars in the body of a five-door hatchback, which has been produced since 1997. Later, the automobile manufacturing division of the Daewoo group was absorbed by the American corporation General Motors, and therefore the popular model was renamed Chevrolet Spark.
In Russia, the true Daewoo Matiz is found in two main versions:
M100 is the first generation version, which has been produced since 1997. The hatchback was produced with a 0.8-liter engine, manual gearbox and front-wheel drive transmission.
M150 is a restyled modification released onto the market in 2000. In this version, the car was offered with engines of 0.8, 1 and 1.2 liters. The youngest of them was available in tandem with automatic transmission.
There is also a Daewoo Matiz modification M200 (2005), however, under this name the subcompact car was produced only in the domestic market of the Republic of Korea. In Europe it was known as Chevrolet Matiz, in Russia - as Chevrolet Spark.

Kia Picanto
The Korean Kia Picanto is one of the few participants in our rating of small used cars that has not been taken off sale in Russia. Thus, at the end of August 2022, it is present in the brand’s product line at a price starting from RUB 1,334,900. However, let's not go off topic and return to earlier versions of this model:
First generation (SA). This version of the hatchback was produced from 2004 to 2010 with petrol and diesel engines of 1.0 and 1.1 liters. Gearbox options are 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.
Second generation (TA). The updated Kia Picanto was produced from 2011 to 2017 in three- and five-door body styles. Engine - 1.0 or 1.25 liter petrol, gearboxes - 5-speed manual transmission and 4-automatic transmission.
Third generation (JA). This model has been produced in this version since 2017 to this day. The car is available with 1.0 and 1.25 liter MPI engines, as well as a turbocharged 1.0 MPI turbo. The choice of checkpoint remained unchanged.
Compared to its peers, the Kia Picanto looks great; this baby has been awarded many awards and high marks from authoritative publications. For example, Top Gear gave it a 7 out of 10, describing it as an affordable, practical and quality car.
The cost of the first generation Kia Picanto starts at approximately 200,000 rubles, the latest and most equipped copies cost up to 500,000 rubles. Chevrolet Spark
As noted above, the Chevrolet Spark is the Daewoo Matiz renamed in 2005. There are several modifications of this car:
First generation (M200/M250). One of the best used small cars was offered in 2005-2009 with a 0.8 or 1.0 liter engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-automatic transmission.
Second generation (M300). The updated A-Class hatchback was produced with petrol engines of 1.0, 1.2 and 1.25 liters, and a version with a 1.0 diesel engine was also available. A CVT has been added to the standard gearbox.
Third generation (M400). This model was not officially sold in Russia, so the latest modification of the Chevrolet Spark is usually imported into the Russian Federation from Kazakhstan or other countries of the post-Soviet space. It is available with 1.0 and 1.4 liter petrol engines paired with a CVT.
Chevrolet Spark of all three generations, including restyled modifications, are available on the secondary market. Depending on the year of manufacture, condition and level of equipment, such a car can cost from 200,000 rubles (2005-2009) to 1,300,000 rubles (the latest copies with mileage less than 1000 km).

Peugeot 107
This car was produced from 2005 to 2014 and was updated twice during this period - in 2009 and 2012. It appeared in our country in 2007 and almost immediately received the “Best Car According to Runet” award in its category. A year later, he was awarded the national “Car of the Year in Russia” award three times in the “City Cars” category.
Most available hatchback models are equipped with a liter engine producing 68 horsepower. There is also a version with a 54 hp diesel turbo engine. pp., however, it was not officially released in Russia. Gearboxes: five-speed manual and robotic MMT.
The advantages of the Peugeot 107 include a spacious interior, but the disadvantages are a very small trunk. Overall, this is a high-quality and reliable small car. Depending on the age, mileage and condition, the price of such a car can range from approximately 250,000 to 650,000 rubles. The best examples have a mileage of 50-70 thousand kilometers.
Smart Fortwo
This is a kei car, produced in the body of a three-door hatchback under the famous brand of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Unlike the models discussed above, it accommodates only a driver and one passenger. Currently, on the secondary market Smart Fortwo can be found in three versions:
First generation (W450). In this version, the microcar was produced from 1998 to 2007 with 0.6-0.7 liter gasoline engines or a 0.8 liter diesel engine with automated transmission (AMT).
Second generation (W451). This modification of the kei car was relevant from 2007 to 2014. The car was offered with a 0.8 liter diesel engine and two 1.0 liter petrol engines. The transmission is a five-speed automated transmission (AMT).
Third generation (C453/A453). In this version, the microcar was produced from 2014 to 2019 with a 0.9- or 1.0-liter engine. Later, an electric modification of the model with a 66-kilowatt electric motor appeared.
The Smart Fortwo is a luxury car that is rarely used as a sole means of transport. It is excellent as an auxiliary transport for tasks that do not require large capacity. Maintenance and repair of a minicar are usually quite expensive.
In Russia, the first generation Smart Fortwo with a mileage of more than 100,000 km can be found at a price of ~300,000 rubles. Newer copies of the second generation (including restyling) cost approximately 400-800 thousand rubles. The price of a third generation kei car can range from half a million (2016-2017) to 1.7-1.8 million rubles (with a mileage of up to 20,000 km).
Nissan Micra
This stylish five-door hatchback has been produced since 1982. To date, it has received four full-scale updates; the fifth generation of the model is current. The following examples can be found on the secondary market:

Unlike obvious subcompacts, the Toyota Yaris is a subcompact five-door car. On the secondary market it can be found in different versions:
first generation (1999-2005) with a 1.0 to 1.5 liter engine with a manual or automatic transmission at a price of about 300-500 thousand rubles;
second generation (2005-2011) with a 1.3 or 1.5 liter engine. The cost of such copies varies in the range of 300-700 thousand rubles;
third generation (2010-2020) with a unit with a volume of 1.0 to 1.5 liters. The price of options can range from 700,000 to 1,200,000 rubles;
