Comparison of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta

Categories

Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta are the most affordable crossovers from Korean brands. According to the European classification, both models belong to the SUV-B class (subcompact). In this article we will compare these cars according to a number of criteria, including design, technical characteristics, comfort options and multimedia.
Dimensions and capacity

The length of the Kia Seltos is 4370 mm, width - 1800 mm, height - 1615 mm, wheelbase - 2630 mm. The ground clearance of this model is 185 mm, the volume of the luggage compartment according to the VDA classification is 468 liters. The rear seats fold down in a 60:40 ratio, allowing for more luggage space.

Overall dimensions of the Hyundai Creta are 4300 × 1790 × 1620 mm, the distance between the front and rear axles is 2610 mm, ground clearance is 190 mm, trunk volume (VDA) is 402 liters. The backrest of the rear row of seats can also be folded in a 60:40 ratio; this option is present in any crossover configuration, including the basic one.

As for interior roominess, the cars are approximately the same according to this criterion - there is enough space in the back seat for two adults and a child. What about the trunk? In Kia, thanks to the longer body length, it is 66 liters larger. And this advantage does not depend on the position of the rear seat backs.
Design and outdoor decor

From the outside, both cars look modern and the design of the models is top notch. The new Seltos has a sweeping body silhouette, LED headlights and taillights (in older versions), a massive radiator grille and lower air intake, rear bumper surrounds, roof rails and a rear spoiler.

There are eight color options. Buyers can choose from two shades of white (Clear White and Snow White Pearl), silver (Silky Silver), two blue (Neptune Blue and Gravity Blue), red (Runway Red), metallic (Glittering Metal) and black (Aurora Black Pearl). For higher trim levels, four two-tone options are also offered.

By most criteria, the Hyundai Creta is not inferior to its conventional competitor. LED optics are installed both front and rear (in older trim levels); when viewed from the side, stylish “boomerang” inserts are visible. Also eye-catching is the large radiator grille and alloy wheels of 16 or 17 inches (not in all versions).

There are nine main body colors - silver, black, white, dark grey, blue, red, light grey, brown and orange. They are offered in Prime, Classic and Lifestyle trim levels. For the most expensive Lifestyle version, two-color combinations are also available - black with white, dark gray, blue, red or orange.

The standard exterior equipment of the Kia Seltos includes front and rear mudguards, bumpers with silver inserts, and a shark fin antenna. The competitor from Hyundai has a rear spoiler. In general, the exterior of both models can be described as modern and in line with current automotive fashion trends.
Interior, comfort and multimedia

Even in the basic version, the Kia Seltos boasts many adjustments: the angle of the rear seats, the driver's seat height, the steering column reach and height. The trunk is equipped with lighting, the steering wheel is multifunctional, and all windows are electric.

Multimedia system - with an 8" display, six speakers and support for smartphone integration technologies (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay). The audio system is equipped with a radio receiver, a USB connector for connecting external media, and supports RDS (Radio Data System).

The standard equipment of the Hyundai Creta includes electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, a USB port for connecting storage devices, a multifunction steering wheel with audio controls, a full set of power windows, two 12 V sockets - on the center console and in the trunk.

Multimedia - with an eight-inch color screen, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and four speakers. In addition, standard options include Bluetooth and Hands Free speakerphone. As you can see, for a minimal price, subcompact crossovers differ slightly in options.

Starting with the second configuration, the Kia Seltos has four “warm options”: heated front seats, steering wheel, windshield washer and exterior mirrors. In the top version, the mini-crossover is equipped with a heating function for the rear sofa, an electrically heated windshield and air deflectors for rear passengers.

Depending on the chosen configuration, the front panel can be finished with gray matte or black glossy inserts; the top version has imitation stitching. Seat trim is fabric, combined (leatherette + fabric) or artificial leather. The three older versions have LED interior lighting.

The maximum comfort options in the Kia crossover are available in older trim levels. The top version of the car has:

     Cruise control;
     climate control;
     wireless charger;
     rain and light sensors;
     front parking radars;
     navigation system

and with a 10.25" screen;
     Supervision instrument panel with 7" display;
     ventilation and electrically adjustable front seats;
     keyless access to the car and push-button engine start;
     interior rear view mirror with auto-dimming function;
     Bose premium audio system with eight speakers, subwoofer and amplifier.

The Hyundai Creta, in its second Classic trim level, has three-stage heated seats for the driver and front passenger, an additional USB connector for rear passengers, an electric driver's window with an anti-pinch function and Auto.

The average Family configuration includes keyless access to the car, push-button engine start, a rear view camera with dynamic markings, leather trim on the steering wheel and gear selector, rear parking radars and the ability to select a driving mode (only for modifications with an automatic gearbox).

In the most expensive version, the Hyundai Creta has approximately the same set of options as its competitor: eco-leather seat trim, a navigation system with a 10.25" display, a panoramic roof, all-round cameras, a maximum range of "warm options", a premium Bose audio system with eight speakers.

It is extremely difficult to say for sure which car is better in terms of comfort options. The price range is designed in such a way that there is no clear winner among these models. It's easiest to make a decision based on your allocated budget. In this case, you can simply compare the options available for the same amount of money and choose the best one.
Engine and gearbox

The Kia Seltos is offered in three different engine and gearbox combinations:

     1.6 MPI+manual transmission/2WD or 4WD. Maximum power - 123 (2WD) or 121 hp. With. (4WD), torque - 151 (2WD) or 148 Nm (4WD), acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 12.2 (2WD) or 12.9 seconds. (4WD), average gasoline consumption - 6.9 (2WD) or 7.8 l/100 km (4WD).
     1.6 MPI+automatic transmission/2WD or 4WD. Maximum power - 123 (2WD) or 121 hp. With. (4WD), torque - 151 (2WD) or 148 Nm (4WD), acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 12.3 (2WD) or 12.6 seconds. (4WD), average gasoline consumption - 7.4 (2WD) or 8.0 l/100 km (4WD).
     2.0 MPI+variator (IVT)/2WD or 4WD. Maximum power - 149 hp. s., torque - 180 Nm, acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 9.6 (2WD) or 10.4 sec. (4WD), average gasoline consumption - 6.8 (2WD) or 7.3 l/100 km (4WD).
     1.6 T-GDI+robot (7DCT)/4WD. Maximum power - 177 hp. s., torque - 265 Nm, acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 8.4 seconds, average gasoline consumption - 7.6 l/100 km.

Let's now take a look at the available engine and gearbox combinations of the Hyundai Creta:

     1.6 MPI+manual transmission/2WD or 4WD. Maximum power - 123 (2WD) or 121 hp. With. (4WD), torque - 151 (2WD) or 148 Nm (4WD), acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 11.8 (2WD) or 12.5 seconds. (4WD), average gasoline consumption - 6.8 (2WD) or 7.2 l/100 km (4WD).
     1.6 MPI+automatic transmission/2WD or 4WD. Maximum power - 123 (2WD) or 121 hp. With. (4WD), torque - 151 (2WD) or 148 Nm (4WD), acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 11.6 (2WD) or 12.0 sec. (4WD), average gasoline consumption - 7.0 (2WD) or 7.5 l/100 km (4WD).
     2.0 MPI+automatic transmission/2WD or 4WD. Maximum power - 150 hp. With. torque - 191 Nm, acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h - 10.2 (2WD) or 10.9 seconds. (4WD), average gasoline consumption - 7.1 (2WD) or 7.7 l/100 km (4WD).

As you can see, in the initial configurations the cars demonstrate similar technical characteristics, the difference in fuel consumption and dynamic performance is extremely insignificant. For those buyers for whom the power of a 1.6-liter engine is not enough, the choice becomes more difficult.

Thus, the two-liter naturally aspirated engine, which can be used in both cars, works in conjunction with a CVT in the Kia Seltos, and with a six-speed automatic transmission in the competitor from Hyundai. For some, this difference may be insignificant, but for others it is extremely important - when choosing a car, preferences often decide everything.

A turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with an impressive output of 177 hp for a subcompact crossover. With. Only the Kia Seltos can be equipped, albeit in the expensive Prestige, Premium and Premium+ trim levels. The robotic gearbox is also available only to buyers of the Seltos model.
